Description
Bacterial diversity of the Mekong River in Thailand during March - early December 2021 was derived from 16S rRNA metabarcode sequences. All DNA samples were sequenced using Illumina platform. QIIME2 was employed to assign taxonomic classification of OTUs.
The data and information were provided from LMC MekongDNA project (https://mekongdna.org/).
The sampling events of the Lancang-Mekong microbiome project are published to GBIF sampling dataset UUID: 77c5d29c-2c6e-4d01-bc66-eb23c274c73f ( https://doi.org/10.15468/drf547 ).
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 12,614 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
Freshwater ecosystems exert great impact on human livelihoods. Mekong River system is a regional water resource shared by China, Myanmar, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Biodiversity of river microbes have a potential for assessment and monitoring of environmental conditions in freshwater ecosystems. However, generating biodiversity data based on traditional sampling and morphological identification is time-consuming and error-prone. Recently, metabarcoding of environmental DNA (eDNA) technique offers novel opportunities. It is non-invasive, cost-effective method to accurately assess biodiversity and bioindicators with the aid of advanced Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and High-throughput Sequencing (HTS) technologies. However, the metabarcoding studies and eDNA data in Mekong River are very scarce.
