Description

This dataset contains records from the majority of the UWIZM echinoderm collections.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 60 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

The purpose of this project is to make the various collections at the main institutions housing the biodiversity information available digitally through publication and the possible creation of a CariBIF portal for the region.

Title Improving Biodiversity data accessibility in the Caribbean countries of Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Suriname
Identifier BID-CA2016-0006-REG
Funding This project is made possible through a grant from GBIF
Study Area Description This project covers zoological specimens collected in Trinidad & Tobago and the surrounding region over the last century.
Design Description The goal of this project is to make the records contained within the UWIZM accessible to all.

The personnel involved in the project:

Sampling Methods

Specimens were collected by various methods including snorkeling and beach patrols.

Study Extent Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, Dominica
Quality Control Specimen identifications were checked by at least two people.

Method step description:

  1. 1. Specimens in the collection were assessed for existing data (labels in jars, details in registers, etc,) 2. Identifications were confirmed or made using a variety of literature sources (scientific papers, books, online resources) 3. Specimens were photographed and properly stored then the data was uploaded to the UWIZM Past Perfect database
