Description

Monitoring this area of the Central Suriname Nature Reserve was focused on amphibians. The team consisted of Paul Ouboter and Rawien Jairam. During the 2009 trip the entomologist Conrad Gillett joined the team and consequently apart from amphibians and reptiles, a few insects were collected as well.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 8 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Project Data

Monitoring of amphibians at Raleighvallen-Voltzberg started in 1997 till 2009. The monitoring was focused on the impact of climate change on amphibian communities.

Title Impact of Climate Change on Amphibian Communities
Identifier BID-CA2016-0006-REG
Study Area Description Mesophytic lowland tropical rainforest, with small streams. The area also has the 230m high granite inselberg with rock savanna vegetation.
Design Description There were 500m transects established in disturbed (low level eco-tourism) and undisturbed parts of the Nature Reserve. Transect were surveyed during the night and early morning.

Sampling Methods

Most records concern sightings and calls. A few interesting specimens were collected and compose this dataset.

Study Extent The Raleighvallen-Voltzberg was sampled 6 times.
Quality Control The data was identified with the use of field guides and or amphibian call libraries.

Method step description:

  1. 1. The amphibians were collected using line transects during night and day surveys. Reptiles were collected by hand when encountered. Insects through active sampling. 2. The specimens were labeled in the field and after identification a collection number was assigned to each specimen. 3. The specimens were first preserved in formaldehyde and then transferred into 70% Ethanol. The insects were dried and then pinned. 4. All specimens were identified to species using literature and keys.
