This project aims to compile and analyze several large existing bird dataset of Belize and to disseminate the results to decision-makers and the public. The UB ERI will coordinate the mobilization of Belize's existing un-compiled bird data through eBird and the GBIF network. This will be done in collaboration with two main partners: the Forest Department, the regulatory agency responsible for enforcing policies and regulations for sustainable management of its natural resources and Belize Audubon Society (BAS), a non-governmental organization that co-manages seven protected areas in Belize.

Description du domaine d'étude / de recherche | Data for this project was collected at several locations in Belize including protected areas and private lands. For this particular dataset, data was collected at Chaa Creek Lodge on its private reserve located in the Cayo District. The field survey was conducted by the Foundation for Wildlife Conservation (formerly known as Birds Without Borders). |

Méthodes d'échantillonnage
The data collection followed the point count method. Point counts were conducted at 100 m intervals along a transect of 800 m to 1000 m. A total of 60 points were established. At each interval/point count, the recorded and observer recorded all species seen and/or heard for 10 minutes. The number of individuals of that species was also recorded along with other information such as the date, start and end time, and weather conditions.
Etendue de l'étude | Data was collected at Chaa Creek Lodge in Belize from November 1997 to July 2001. |
---|---|
Contrôle qualité | The surveys were conducted by field staff who possessed experience with identification of birds. Identification guides were also used to verify identification. |
Description des étapes de la méthode:
- This dataset was collected using the point count methodology along a transect.
Métadonnées additionnelles
Objet | This dataset was developed based on point count data collected at Chaa Creek Lodge. The dataset includes observational data of both migrant and resident species. Having data on birds in Belize will allow information to be generated on abundance, diversity, etc. |
