Description

This dataset outlines the Herbarium Collection of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society from as early as 1906.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 273 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

This project is designed to catalog and publish the biodiversity information of the participating countries, in order to make the information accessible beond the physical geographical boundaries.

Title Improving Biodiversity data accessibility in the Caribbean countries of Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Suriname
Identifier BID-CA2016-0006-REG
Funding This project is funded through a grant from GBIF
Study Area Description Samples were collected from around the island in different environs, which include- cane fields, wetlands, gullies, beaches, fields. This was done during the temporal coverage of 1930-1950.

Sampling Methods

Specimens were garnered from each recorded plant species on the island and preserved on mounting paper, with a description of the plant and environmental conditions where it can be found.

Study Extent The extent of study is confined to the collections which have already been donated to the museum and have been housed in the natural history collection from the field studies conducted in 1933.

Method step description:

  1. A specimen sample was taken from the field. The specimen is cataloged and mounted on mounting paper. The specimen is stored in a safe environment, protected from the elements for preservation.
