Description
The dataset of butterflies of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is constructed based on the results of the Vietnam national research project, titled " Research on biodiversity of Son Doong cave system in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh province for conservation and sustainable development”, coded DTĐL.CN-113/21, supported by the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology, conducted by the Vietnam National Museum of Nature, Hanoi, Vietnam.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 386 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Study Area Description | The studied areas were Thuong Hoa commmune, Minh Hoa district, and Tan Trach and Thuong Trach commues, Bo Trach district in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. The Park is located in the middle of the Annamite Mountain Range in Quang Binh province, Viet Nam, and shares its boundary with the Hin Namno Nature Reserve in the Lao PDR to the west. The area of the Park is 123,326 ha containsing terrestrial and aquatic habitats, primary and secondary forest, sites of natural regeneration, tropical dense forests and savanna and is rich in large, often spectacular and scientifically significant caves. The most significant cave in the studied area is Son Doong cave, considered the larst cave in the world. |
Design Description | The studies of butetrflies were carried out in April, May, June in years. Butterflies were collected by hand nets in difenrent habitats from opne areas to natural closed forest; butterfly species and their abundance were also observed and recored long paths in the forest habitat, grass and shrub, agrcultural and along stream habitats, inluding forest in the cave. |
Sampling Methods
Butterfly specimens were collected in different habitats by hand nets. In additional, butterflies were observed and recorded.
Study Extent | The main study of the project was in 2022 and 2023, but the study was also used data in 1999. The species list of butterflies of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has been published in two papers in Vietnam. Vu Van Lien. 2016. Butterfly species list of Minh Hoa, Quang Binh. VNU Journal of Science: Natural Sciences and Technology, Vol. 32, No. 2 (2016) 47-57 Vu Van Lien, Vu Quang Con, Pham Nhat Tan. 2023.
