Description

This dataset contains herbarium and carpological specimens preserved in the Herbarium of the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanic Garden, Türkiye. The collection currently includes more than 20,000 specimens, mainly representing the vascular plant diversity of Türkiye. The oldest specimen in the collection was collected in Erzurum in 1859. The herbarium includes specimens collected and identified by important international botanists, including P.H. Davis and Huber-Morath, together with contributions from numerous Turkish botanists and collectors. Since 2012, the herbarium has also served as one of the main research and botanical illustration centers for the Illustrated Flora of Turkey (Resimli Türkiye Florası) Project, supporting both botanical researchers and scientific plant illustrators. The dataset provides taxonomic, geographic and collection information associated with preserved specimens. Digitization efforts for the herbarium collection are ongoing.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 15,230 records.

The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Geographic Coverage

The collection includes herbarium and carpological specimens with worldwide geographic coverage. Although the collection is mainly focused on the flora of Türkiye, it also contains specimens collected from different countries and regions across the globe.
