Description

This data set outlines the echinoderm collection housed at the Barbados Museum & Historical Society

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 30 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

The purpose of this project is to make the various collections at the min institutions housing biodiversity information available digitally through publication and possible creation of a CariBif portal for the region.

Title Improving Biodiversity data accessibility in the Caribbean countries of Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Suriname
Identifier BID-CA2016-0006-REG
Funding Funding for this project came through a grant by GBIF.
Study Area Description The study area for this project comprises of the various collections housed at the Barbados Museum & Historical Society.
Design Description The motivation for the BMHS is to digitize their natural history collection for preservation and record purposes.

Sampling Methods

For the BMHS, there is no field sampling, as specimens are donated to the museum from various sources. Unfortunately, not every specimen donated is given a proper sampling record by the donor upon receipt of the specimen.

Study Extent The extent of this study is confined to the collections which have already been donated to the museum since it's conception in 1933.

Method step description:

  1. Ech specimen has an ownership record when donated to the Museum. After being received, the specimens are stored, research for classification, measured and photographed before being added to the data set for the publication.
