Descripción
Bird banding data collected at Black Rock Lodge using the Monitoreo de Sobrevivencia Invernal (MoSI-Monitoring Overwinterning Survival) protocol developed by the Institute of Bird Populations (IBP). Data was collected from December 2016 to March 2017 and November 2017 to March 2018.
Registros

This project aims to compile and analyze several large existing bird datasets of Belize. The University of Belize Environmental Research Institute will coordinate the mobilization of Belize's existing un-compiled bird data through eBird and the GBIF network. This will be done in collaboration with two main partners: the Forest Department, the regulatory agency responsible for enforcing relevant policies and regulations for the sustainable management of Belize's natural resources and the Belize Audubon Society (BAS), a non-governmental Organization who co-manages seven protected areas in Belize.

Descripción del área de estudio | Data for this project was collected at several locations in Belize, including protected areas and privately owned area. This data was collected at Black Rock Lodge (BRL) which is located in the Cayo District about 10 miles from the nearest town, San Ignacio. The data was collected by UB ERI and BRL. |

Métodos de muestreo
The data was collected following the MoSI protocol in which 16 mist-nets are set up at a station covering approximately 9 hectares. The station is operated for three days every month from November to March. Mist-nets are opened at sunrise and are checked every half hour for a total of six hours per day. Birds caught in the nets are safely extracted and taken back to a processing station where they are identified to the species level and data is collected on fat, age, sex, weight etc. All resident and migrant songbirds captured in the nets are banded except for hummingbirds.
Área de Estudio | Data was collected at Black Rock Lodge on December 2016 to March 2017 and November 2017 to March 2018. |

Control de Calidad | The station is operated by experienced and certified bird banders and assistants. Ageing and sexing resources and materials are used to properly age and sex birds and photos are taken for references. |
Descripción de la metodología paso a paso:
- This data set was collected using the MoSI protocol.
Metadatos adicionales
Propósito | This dataset was developed based on MoSI banding data collected at Black Rock Lodge as part of long term bird monitoring in Belize. The dataset includes data on both residents of Belize and migrants. Having data on birds in Belize will allow information to be generated on abundance, distribution, diversity etc. |

Descripción de mantenimiento | The maintenance frequency is not planned. |
