Description

The ITINERIS project (Italian Integrated Environmental Research Infrastructures System) has among its purposes that of creating datasets to share biodiversity data with the scientific community. For this reason, it was created a first dataset focused on Solieriaceae family (macroalgae) and each record of the database is associated to a picture of the herbarium sheet. All the herbarium sheets were realized as products of monitoring activities belonging to the institutional activities up to 2000. After this period, the herbarium sheets were realized during activities from funded different projects such as Spicamar, Ritmare and eLTER. This dataset includes 17 records of samples belonging to the Solieriaceae family collected in Mar Piccolo of Taranto. The samples are a part of the entire collection of macroalgae species included in the herbarium TAR.

Description du domaine d'étude / de recherche | Mar Piccolo of Taranto (Southern Italy), is a semi-enclosed basin divided in two inlets: the first basin “Primo Seno” with a maximum depth 13 m and the second basin “Secondo Seno” with a maximum depth 10 m. The first basin is connected to the Mar Grande, a bay of the Mediterranean Sea, through two channels (Porta Napoli and Navigabile). It has features of a transition environment since water salinity is influenced by the presence of small tributaries and numerous (about 34) submarine springs (locally called “citri”) which determine the near-surface circulation engine toward the inlets, while the bottom currents moving in the system in opposite through Navigabile and Porta Napoli channels. In the basin the tidal range is of 30–40 cm the seawater temperature ranges between a minimum of 7.5°C and a maximum value of 32.3°C, while salinity ranges between 33.0 and 37.8 psu. The time-span of data ranged from 1988 and 2017 to identified in a long-term period the species belonging to Solieriaceae family. |
Description du design | A general textual description of research design. It can include detailed accounts of goals, motivations, theory, hypotheses, strategy, statistical design, and actual work. Samples were collected in order to achieve long-term ecological research purposes. Data from samples allow to describe species composition of the studied areas, differences in species composition over time, information about the presence/absence and abundance of species, the presence of non-indigenous species. The number of stations and the sampling differed according to the project. In general, sampling activities were carried out at monthly intervals or seasonally. |
Les personnes impliquées dans le projet:
Méthodes d'échantillonnage
In general, the sampling method not differed among projects. The samples were handpicked from within a 50×50 cm square, randomly placed on the bottom. Three replicates were collected at each station.
Etendue de l'étude | The sampled areas are along the coasts of the two inlets of the Mar Piccolo of Taranto. |
---|---|
Contrôle qualité | Quality control for geographic data: Reliability of coordinates was checked in QGIS. Quality control for taxonomic data: specimens were assigned to taxonomic units according to the available literature and identification keys. Identifications were internally checked by taxonomic experts. |
