Description
The BNHS museum houses a vast collection of specimens collected from across the Indian subcontinent over the past hundred years. The dataset provides 235 occurrence records based on specimens of sea snakes from India, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Iran. The dataset holds records of 30 species belonging to 10 genera and three families. The distribution and natural history of sea snakes remain fairly unknown due to their occurrence in marine habitats and most of the observations are accidental records from fishing and as bycatch. Museum information on occurrence as well as collection localities will help in understanding the distribution of these snakes.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 235 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.
