Descrição
The Avifaunal diversity study of Pakhibitan Ecopark is published by Nature Mates Nature Club under WBHIDCO Pakhibitan Project in Pakhibitan, Ecopark, Newtown, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This sampling event was performed in a selected point located in the marshlands covered with elephant grass (Typha sp.) of Pakhibitan surrounded by a forest patch. This dataset includes all the birds recorded in a span of one year. All the species are identified up to the species or genus level. A total of 134 species of birds are recorded belonging to 53 families and 17 order. This dataset also includes the life stage, activity and behaviour of the birds observed.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Descrição da Área de Estudo | Marshland of Pakhibitan is mostly covered with elephant grass (Typha sp.) surrounded by a forested patch. In the summer (April-May), the maximum temperature of the area reaches around 41°C. During the winter (December-February), the temperature drops to 9°C while the average rainfall is 1836.5 mm per year. The soil type is alluvial because it is located in the Indo-Gangetic plain. |
Métodos de Amostragem
Point Count The collection of data is obtained by point count method , where the count is performed in a 360 degree arc around a fixed survey station. Equipment used are binocular Olympus (10*50 DPS I ) Camera (Nikon Coolpix P900, P600, B600). Observed data were recorded in the field notebook.

Metadados Adicionais
Propósito | This dataset is a part of a long term project under the WBHIDCO with a purpose to support urban biodiversity, conserving the natural landmass of New Town along with the conservation of avian and other species diversity. It can also provide a scope for a comparative study on the effect of increasing urbanization on the avian diversity. |
